What is HypoCol® capsule?
HypoCol® capsule is an all-natural product derived from the well-documented
traditional red yeast rice (known as “Hong Qu” in Chinese).
What are the active ingredients in HypoCol®?
Each HypoCol® capsule contains 600mg of proprietary Red Yeast Rice from WBL
Peking University Biotech Co., Ltd (WPU) which is scientifically derived from
fermentation of red yeast (Monascus purpureus Went species) on premium rice.
HypoCol® capsule contains naturally occurring monacolins, natural pigments and
fatty acids.
What is HypoCol® capsule recommended for?
HypoCol® capsule is recommended for use by healthy adult men and women for
maintaining healthy balance of circulating lipid levels.
How does HypoCol® capsule work in the body?
The naturally occurring HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors in HypoCol® capsule
lowers the liver’s production of lipid, leading to healthy balance of circulatory
levels of lipids. In addition, HypoCol® capsule helps to maintain healthy lipids
levels.
What is the presentation of HypoCol®?
Each box contains 30 or 90 HypoCol® 600mg capsules.
What is the storage condition of HypoCol®?
Store HypoCol® capsules in its original packaging in a cool dry place, away from
excessive heat and light.
What is the direction for use of HypoCol®?
For optimal results, take 2 capsules twice daily after meals. For general
maintenance, take 1-2 capsules daily after meals. Do not take more than 4
capsules in any 24-hour period.
What are the points to take note of before taking HypoCol®?
The following must be considered when taking HypoCol® :
- HypoCol® capsule is not recommended for individuals under 20 years of age.
- HypoCol® capsule is not recommended for individuals at risk for or have history of liver disease.
- HypoCol® is contraindicated in individuals with liver or kidney impairment.
- Not recommended for those who are pregnant or currently lactating.
- Avoid taking HypoCol® capsule if you consume more than 2 drinks of alcohol per day; if you have serious infection; if you have undergone organ transplant; if you have a serious disease or physical disorder or if you have undergone a major surgery recently.
- Consult your physician if you are taking any medication or if you are under physician supervision for cholesterol control.
- Avoid concomitant use of lovastatin and other statins.
- Do not take grapefruit juice with HypoCol®.
- Discontinue usage or consult your physician if you experience muscle aches or weakness.
- Periodic checks on liver function should be conducted if on prolonged use of the product.
What are the side effects of HypoCol®?
- May cause muscle problem and gastrointestinal discomforts.
- May affect liver and kidney functions.
What is Cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a fat-like substance produced by the body or derived from food
and is necessary for the body to function normally and to build cell walls. The
cholesterol is carried through one’s bloodstream by special proteins called
lipoproteins.2
What are Lipoproteins?
There are 2 main types of lipoproteins. One is low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or
“bad” cholesterol, which will increase the buildup of fats in the arteries. The
other is high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or “good” cholesterol, which removes
cholesterol from the cells before they are deposited as plaque in the arteries.2

What is the difference between HypoCol® and statins therapy in Cholesterol Management?
HypoCol® is a 100% natural Chinese Proprietary Medicine which is recommended
for use by healthy adult men and women for maintaining healthy balance of
circulating lipid levels. Statins are prescribed by doctors.
Can HypoCol® be taken with cholesterol medication?
Avoid concomitant use of lovastatin or other statins together with HypoCol®.
Consult your physician if you are taking any medication or if you are under
physician supervision for cholesterol control.
Must HypoCol® be taken continuously (i.e. cannot stop after starting) or for a certain period of time only?
The first line for maintaining healthy lipid levels is through sensible diet and
healthy lifestyle. HypoCol® may be an additional option to achieve optimal result.
For general maintenance, take 1-2 capsules daily after meals.
Can pregnant or breastfeeding mothers take HypoCol®?
Not recommended in pregnancy or lactation.
